Privacy Policy

The short version: Composure is made by Arrowstone LLC, doing business as Composure (“we”) - and the app collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party code, and no servers of ours. Your data stays on your device and - if you use iCloud - in your own private iCloud storage that we cannot access. The one exception is a pre-release build from TestFlight, where Apple sends us crash reports and the feedback you choose to submit - see “Beta testing” below.

What we don't collect

The app does not collect, receive, store, sell, or share any personal information: no names, emails, identifiers, usage analytics, advertising data, or location. It contains no third-party code and makes no network requests to us, because we operate no servers; the only services it talks to are Apple's - iCloud, the App Store, and Apple Weather - each for the purpose described below. The two things we do receive are an email address you choose to give us on our website (see “Our website and the waitlist”) and, during a TestFlight beta, the crash reports and feedback Apple forwards (see “Beta testing”). Nothing in the app is connected to either. If the app crashes or hangs, iOS may hand it a diagnostic report; Composure keeps those on your device and lists them under Settings › Checkup, where you can choose to send one to us. Nothing is sent unless you choose to, and it goes only where you send it.

Our website and the waitlist

composurealarm.com sets no cookies and loads no scripts, analytics, or third-party resources. Our host, Netlify, serves the pages and, like any web host, handles the connection details your browser sends to load them under its own privacy policy. If you enter your email address on the site, we store it for one purpose: to tell you when Composure is released. It is held by Netlify, in an account we control. We do not sell or share it, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track whether you open or click anything we send. Ask us at hello@composurealarm.com and we will delete it. This is entirely separate from the app - installing Composure sends us nothing.

Where your data lives

Alarms and habits, affirmations, goals and their history, life goals, vision-board photos (the app keeps its own copy of each photo you pick), journal entries from the evening ritual (intentions, highlights, and day ratings), your mornings history, and settings are stored on your device. If iCloud is enabled, iOS syncs them to your private iCloud (CloudKit) database, protected by your Apple Account and Apple's encryption. Only you can access it; we cannot. The home-screen widget reads a small snapshot - your next alarms' times and labels - that the app writes to shared storage on your device, and lock-screen Live Activities carry only an alarm's label, its time, and your chosen look; the day's quote comes from the app's own bundled library. A Checkup screen keeps a short local diagnostics log (screen-brightness events, the last background-repair time, and what the App Store last told the app about your subscription - plan names, dates and status only), and the app writes technical entries to the iOS system log (error codes and file names, never your words). Deleting the app removes its data from that iPhone; the iCloud copy remains until you erase it (below) or remove it in your iCloud settings.

Your controls: export and erase

Settings > Export Your Data creates two files - a readable Markdown journal and a JSON copy - containing your journal entries, mornings history, goals and their completions, life goals, and affirmations (not photos, alarms, or habits), and hands them to the iOS share sheet. The app keeps no record of where you send them and deletes its temporary copy when the share sheet closes. Settings > Erase All Data cancels your alarms and notifications, deletes your alarms, habits, goals, journal, photos, affirmations, and diagnostics from that iPhone, and asks iCloud to delete its copy, then waits for iCloud to confirm. Your purchases (held by Apple), the onboarding step, your Health & Safety acknowledgment, and simple display preferences such as your chosen look are kept.

Wake weather

If you turn on “Weather when you wake” in Settings, iOS asks for your location permission then and there - never at wake time - and the app requests reduced accuracy. At wake time the app takes one approximate fix, rounds it to a roughly 1-kilometer grid, and sends only that rounded coordinate to Apple's WeatherKit service to fetch current conditions, which the app shows with the required “Apple Weather” attribution. Apple processes that request under its own privacy terms; we never see, store, or receive your location, and the app does not keep it either. Turn the toggle off and no location is used at all.

Motion and sensors

Physical wake-up missions (shake, steps, squats) process motion-sensor data on your device, in real time, solely to count your movement. The step mission uses iOS's Motion & Fitness permission, which iOS asks for the first time it runs; if a sensor is unavailable or permission is declined, the mission says so and you can dismiss the alarm another way. Motion data is never stored and never leaves your device. The one-time Health & Safety acknowledgment is remembered only on your device.

Notifications and the lock screen

Reminders, habit nudges, bedtime notices, a free-trial reminder two days before it converts, and the evening “turn down” prompt are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push servers of ours are involved (CloudKit's silent sync notifications are operated by Apple as part of iCloud). Some of your own words can appear on the lock screen: the affirmation reminder shows the affirmation you wrote, a habit notification shows the habit's name, and an alarm's label is the title of the full-screen alarm and its Live Activity. iOS Settings > Notifications > Show Previews controls previews for notifications; it does not apply to the alarm alert itself.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your name, address, or payment details; the app reads only Apple's signed record of what you own to unlock features, and keeps a single yes/no on your device so the app opens unlocked before it has checked with the App Store. Refunds are requested from Apple, through Settings > Request a Refund or reportaproblem.apple.com, and are decided by Apple. With Family Sharing, Apple makes your purchase available to your family members under its own rules. Apple's Privacy Policy governs its handling of your purchase information.

Beta testing

Before release, and occasionally after, we distribute pre-release builds through Apple's TestFlight. When you test one, Apple collects crash logs, basic usage information (such as installs and sessions), the name and email address on your tester invitation, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send, and makes them available to us in App Store Connect. That is the only time we receive anything about your use of the app; we use it solely to find and fix problems, and Apple's TestFlight terms govern it. Everything else in this policy applies to beta builds exactly as it does to the release version.

Children

Composure is not directed at children under 13 and, because it collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear here and in the app with a new date. Since the app collects nothing, changes would most likely narrow rather than expand data use.
